Wi-Fi (or IEEE 802.11b/g) is the dominant wireless local area network
(WLAN) standard for connecting mobile computing devices to high-speed
communications networks. It enables wireless connectivity of up
to 11 megabits per second.
By allowing people away from their desks or workstations to access
corporate intranets and the Internet, WLANs are driving tremendous
productivity improvements in business while giving mobile workers
access to wireless high-speed Internet connections in diverse public
spaces. The Wi-Fi Alliance, which promotes interoperability and
certification of 802.11 products, has over 200 members and has certified
over 1,250 products. |
