Wi-Fi
(or IEEE 802.11b) is a wireless local area network (WLAN). It is the
most popular standard used for connecting computer devices to high-speed
communication networks and offers wireless connectivity speed of up
to 11 megabits per second. This technology has a unique feature of
allowing people to access corporate intranets and the Internet. Using
this standard, WLANS are improving the productivity tremendously in
businesses by offering access to wireless high-speed Internet connections
in diverse public spaces to mobile workers. The Wi-Fi Alliance, with
over 200 member and more than 1,250 products, promotes interoperability
and certification of 802.11 products.
